Čad at Pohoda 2018

Čad at Pohoda 2018

Čad is coming back to Pohoda. Thrash, grind or crust bands are a success in multi-genre categories in Scandinavia or Finland only. The trio Čad from Svätý Jur, which is one of the most successful artists in the history of Radio Head_Awards, breaks this stereotype. As band’s front man, linguist and religion journalist, Pišta Vandal, breaks another set of stereotypes, too. Toward the end of last summer, the band released a new album Bastard which, according to hudba.sk portal, is “full of high-tonnage darkness as well as catchy punk-rock revolt. Technical skills and refined taste helped the well-coordinated family bring the most interesting album of the year on the local hard&heavy scene.” At the beginning of this summer, they will introduce it at Pohoda 2018. More of local hard&heavy load for Pohoda 2018 will be announced tonight in Headbanger_FM program. → read more

Larry Harvey, the man who invented the worldʼs most amazing festival, has passed away

Larry Harvey, the man who invented the worldʼs most amazing festival, has passed away

The transformation of the desert into a lively, sparky place full of people who together create a well-functioning and in a way even an ideal community, the concept of gifts instead of sales, complete freedom with respect for others, the celebration of freedom and tolerance: this is what Larry Harvey managed to create with his festival Burning Man. Photos and videos of the festival indeed suggest a lot, but personal experience is crucial in this case. On our way to the festival, we were looking forward to some kind of attractive eccentric celebration. We returned from an event that had a deep philosophical background amazed by creativity and surprised by the nature and ease of the festival. Larry Harvey had previously arrived at Pohoda, with his colleague Marian Goodell they were hosts in Juraj Kusnierikʼs discussion in Dobra Krajina (Good country) tent. Larry and his story are infinitely inspiring; Burning Man is a unique concept on a global scale, real „miracle in the dessert“, what was the name of Larrys debate at Pohoda. When you arrive at the festival, the people at the gates welcome you with words “Welcome home”. Sorrowful as it is, this home will from now on miss the landlord, a great, modest and extraordinary man, Larry Harvey. Thank you for everything, dear Larry. Michal Kaščák → read more

The Wilderness at Pohoda 2018

The Wilderness at Pohoda 2018

The Wilderness are an absolute proof that punk in its best form is not dead. Guitarist and singer Denis Bango is a genius, a guitar destroyer, and a great curator—that is why The Wilderness will be back to Pohoda and the reason why Denis will pick bands to play at the festival Garage. This next Monday we will present Denisʼ selection and other Hard & Heavy tasty pieces on Rádio_FM in Rudi Rus Headbangerʼ show. This is how he introduced the band last year: “Dáša Fon Fľaša speaks of them as of the best Slovak punk, Shooty thinks they recorded the Slovak version of Nevermind, and Sveťo Korbeľ said they were his most favourite Slovak band.” → read more

Performance TISO dedicated to Marián Labuda Sr.

Performance TISO dedicated to Marián Labuda Sr.

The unforgettable performance TISO opened the tenth edition of Pohoda and is regarded as one of the theatrical highlights of our festival. The lead in the play back then was an amazing actor Marián Labuda. TISO at Pohoda 2006, that was an auditorium filled to capacity, hundreds of people who couldn’t get in standing in front of the tent, absolute silence interrupted by frenetic applause and standing ovation and long applause at the end. When the performance ended, Marián Labuda was sitting next to the tent for quite a long time: exhausted, drenched in sweat, looking surprised and really happy. The new version features his son, Marián Labuda Jr. We would like to dedicate this year’s theater performance to its original leading actor, Slovak acting legend, Marián Labuda. → read more

La Fanfarria del Capitán

La Fanfarria del Capitán

Argentinian band La Fanfarria del Capitán has a clear mission: to travel the world and find limits in their music. The band plays a mix of Latin American rhythms, Ska and rock. Since 2005, they have released five albums and have played a hundred concert a year on average. The quantity is detracting nothing from the quality and extreme zeal that crown each performance, though. This is something visitors at the Czech festival Mighty Sounds as well as Slovak Drienok had a chance to experience. As the band says: “La Fanfarria del Capitán is not a music band but a lifestyle.” With their temperament, they will mesmerize visitors at Pohoda 2018 as well. → read more

Kolowrat

Kolowrat

Music of Košice-based band Kolowrat has earned them titles such as “guitar melancholics” or “spokesmen of urban poetics”. The band debuted with album Vrany sa vracajú in 2006. For their follow-up album Slnko je vo veži, they received three 2009 Radio Head_Awards nominations (Album of the Year – listeners’ choice as well as critics’ choice and Single of the Year for their song “Ja a slečna Ts”.) In October 2013, Kolowrat released their latest album Pobiť sa/utiecť. Toward the end of 2015, they went on a hiatus, which was interrupted by a few unplugged sessions in fall last year. We are glad that they decided to break the silence at Pohoda 2018, where they will be playing the only show they have planned for this year. They will play symbolically in Café Kušnierik, because Juraj Kušnierik, special slovak journalist who is still deeply missed, liked them. → read more
