Mykki Blanco

Mykki Blanco

Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. used several stage names until he decided to perform as a rapping troublemaker Mykki Blanco. Last year, she released her debut album Mykki, which is according to The Wire, “one of the hardest and most consistent recent statements in US hip hop.” The rave reviews from MixMag, Guardian or Pitchfork confirm the ever increasing quality of her work. Mykki Blanco is coming to convince festival-goers about her qualities at Pohoda 2017.  → read more

Austra

Austra

From early childhood on, Austra lead singer Katie Stelmanis’s interest was in classical music; she was influenced by electronic and dance music and even formed a riot grrl band. All these influences are combined in the dreamy synthpop band Austra, with its lead singer’s trademark warble standing out. Since the release of their debut, the band have won critics’ favor. Pitchfork, for instance, gave all three albums more than 7 out of 10 points. In January, they released album Future Politics, where they are on the lookout for brighter future. One of the bright aspects of near future is that Austra will be playing Pohoda 2017. → read more

Rodrigo y Gabriela

Rodrigo y Gabriela

Quick flamenco enhanced with rock and heavy metal made the duo Rodrigo y Gabriela one of the most popular Mexican bands. It was the interesting combination of Latino music and harder music genres that made them beat the greats such as Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash in the Irish charts after the release of their eponymous album. They participated in the soundtracks of the Pirates of the Caribbean, series Breaking Bad, and fairy tale Puss in Boots; they also played in the White House. These unique musicians will show extremely fast fingers and cutting-edge guitar technique at Pohoda 2017. → read more

Alice Phoebe Lou

Alice Phoebe Lou

We discovered Alice Phoebe Lou at last year’s Reeperbahn. She looks a bit like her fellow countrywoman Yolandi of Die Antwoord, but makes a completely different type of music. She deserves the same level of attention, though. There is lightness, a lot of bright ideas, playfulness and joy of performing in her music. You’ll believe every tone she plays and every word she sings; there isn’t really more an artist could wish for. She has played festivals such as SXSW and TEDx Berlin. She started as a foreigner without home, but has made it to the top German and Austrian iTunes music genre charts. Alice will be playing her beautiful songs at Pohoda 2017. → read more

Pixvae

Pixvae

On our way from Eurosonic, the whole Pohoda office crew is sitting in the van, evaluating the gigs and listening to CDs from agents. We establish a strict rule to contact only those artists that will get a “one” from each member (pedagogical minimum in practice). Last year, the only act that made it was a band: Pixvae. They are simply impossible to be mistaken for someone else. The band provides a beautiful interplay between world music, experimental music and math-rock. Pixvae should definitely not slip under the radar of Battles fans or listeners of Potkan’s radio program Hudba sveta (World Music). Or basically anyone who loves discovering exceptional forms of music. You will get a chance to see them live at Pohoda.   → read more

TaxiWars – dEUS front man is coming back to Pohoda with a jazz project

TaxiWars – dEUS front man is coming back to Pohoda with a jazz project

You’ll get dragged into the club from street by groove and sound of a cool sax solo. Cutting through the clouds of thick cigarette smoke, in front of you, you’ll see virtuoso Robin Verheyen in the middle of a battle with a front man of the legendary Belgian band dEUS, Tom Barman, and other fantastic musicians. Barman already won our visitors’ hearts back in 2011 when his band dEUS put on one of the most memorable shows of that festival edition. His current project TaxiWars has been praised by music historian Ashley Kahn, Clash or The Independent and is highly recommended by Pohoda Festival as well. → read more
