Knower

Knower

“Knower will be leavin’ ya’ll on your knees, beggin’ for more.” This is not our but Quincy Jones’ opinion on this fantastic Californian band. Yes, that Quincy Jones who was a producer of the best-selling album of all time, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and of hundreds of other records. Two years back they collaborated with Snarky Puppy; last year they opened for Red Hot Chili Peppers on their European tour; in August, they recorded a video promoting their all-star LIVE band on Facebook that was shared by 33,000 people (with millions of views). The excellent electro-jazz-funk band Knower are coming to Pohoda 2018.

Classical music and jazz students also like dance music. Maybe this is the reason why the two exceptionally talented musicians, percussionist and producer Louis Cole, and vocalist Genevieve Artadi joined forces. For Louis, James Brown was the model to look up to, while Genevieve grew up listening to the Jacksons, Massive Attack, Portishead and Prodigy. These eclectic musical foundations combined with their talent and education turned into their debut released in 2010, which the duo named after themselves (Louis Cole and Genevieve Artadi). Their follow-up album Think Thoughts was released a year later. After their third album, Let Go, was released, they played Bonnaroo. Their production is a mix of Thundercat, FlyLo, Snarky Puppy and Dirty Loops. Their song “F*** The Make Up Skip The Shower” was featured on FlyLo FM on the GTA 5 video game. In 2016, they released their fourth album, Life, and soon added another five incredible artists to their LIVE band lineup: Dennis Hamm (Keys), Sam Wilkes (Bass), Rai Thistlethwayte (Keys), Jacob Mann (Keys), Sam Gendel (Sax) and Thom Gill (Guitar). All the crucial stuff happened in the last two years: Be that their collaboration with Snarky Puppy or their chance to play as an opening act on the Red Hot Chili Peppers tour in Europe. Knower move boundaries of genres and limits of instrumental possibilities. The big things are yet ahead of them. Their “sci-fi extreme jazz fusion” will sure make Pohoda 2018 visitors dance.

PS: Students at music schools might be interested in listening analysis of their songs (we recommend the rhythm section in particular).
