Chór vážskych muzikantov return to Pohoda 2026

One of the most important bands in Trenčín’s alternative music history will also be part of Pohoda’s 30th anniversary celebration. Chór vážskych muzikantov — better known as CHVM — return to the Trenčín airport, bringing with them a legacy that helped shape Slovakia’s underground scene and the alternative culture of the city itself.

27. May 2026

Formed in the early 1980s, CHVM were among the first Slovak bands to embrace new wave, punk, and a truly independent approach to music and culture. At a time when official cultural spaces offered very little room for artistic freedom, the band became involved in illegal samizdat distribution of recordings and helped create a community that would influence generations of alternative musicians. Their impact can still be felt in bands such as Bez ladu a skladu.

But CHVM were never just a band. Around them, an entire alternative community gradually emerged in Trenčín — one that would deeply influence the city’s cultural identity and eventually contribute to the creation of Pohoda itself. Their connection to the festival remains strong to this day.

“Chór vážskych muzikantov are a fundamental band for Trenčín. The band’s leader Ľuboš Dzúrik was an extraordinary person who helped wherever he could, and his influence can still be felt across underground and metal scenes alike. The alternative scene around CHVM eventually became part of the foundations of Pohoda, which they continue to support tirelessly. Every year before the festival build begins, surveyors from GEO3 — which is basically just another name for CHVM — come to the airport to map out the festival grounds. It is only natural that CHVM will be part of our 30th anniversary celebration,” says Michal Kaščák.

Their performance at Pohoda 2026 will be a reminder of how deeply music can shape community, freedom, and the identity of a city.
