"I listen to the city radio, I lie there roaring until I fall asleep. I’m terrified of the future, born to perish...” If you haven't heard these lyrics yet, then you will in the near future. These words are from the young singer Vojtik, who has attracted attention with a powerful statement in the song Detviansky sen (Detvian Dream).
It was this song that made him famous and a sensation in early May. Immediately after it was published on YouTube (symbolically on May 8, the Day of Victory Over Fascism), he became viral and reached tens of thousands of views and was also put on Rádio_ FM.
Symbolically, we announce Vojtik’s performance today on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, as his song and music video Detviansky sen holds up a mirror to our society. He himself is a queer Roma living in a region marked by extremism, and he speaks musically about how hard it is to grow up in Slovakia.
This song touched us too – on the one hand Vojtik holds a mirror up to us as a society, on the other hand it encourages all Roma and LGBTI+ people in Slovakia.
Vojtik will be part of Tep La Ren Cabaret at Pohoda 2023 on the new Tepláreň stage.
We’re sure that we will all enjoy the celebration of humanity and diversity at the Cabaret as well as the other performances on the Tepláreň stage.
