It is not customary for a homeless English street musician from the Paris underground to conquer French festivals. It is not customary for a debut of an unknown artist to receive the rating of 8 out of ten from newspapers such as The Observer and The New York Times. It is not customary for a budding artist to win the Mercury Prize and leave behind names such as Florence + the Machine, Aphex Twin, and Jamie XX. The band started as a lo-fi electro-punk band for connoisseurs, and its fan base has grown mainly due to their superb concerts. The turning point in their career came in March 2014, when they released album Singles and performed its song Seasons (Waiting On You) in the Late Show with David Letterman. Supported by the eccentric dance expression of singer Samuel T. Herring, the video went viral and the band gained recognition not just from Pitchfork reviewers but also millions of people around the world. Future Islands are now an American synth-pop icon that can be seen on big stages of the most famous festivals, and at Pohoda, too, in a few months. → read more

According to Rolling Stone, he’s one of the 10 DJs that rule the Earth. Beatport named him Best Electronic Artist three years in a row. He remixed Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, David Lynch and Nine Inch Nails and collaborated with the likes of Snoop Dogg, The Black Eyed Peas, Jean-Michel Jarre, Santigold and Mark Ronson. His sets have made the biggest clubs and festival such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Fuji Rock or Berlin-based Berghain dance. Belgian rock band Black Box Revelation starred in David Lettermanʼs Late Show and their songs were used in series such as Californication, The Vampire Diaries, Sons of Anarchy, and True Blood. Their anthemic hit “I Think I Like You” is played before and after every match of the first league baseball team Pittsburgh Pirates. British duo Heymoonshaker will play on Saturday, 4th February at Pohoda Party in the A4 club. Their loaded combination of beatbox, raspy vocals, and blues guitar was one of the best concerts of Pohoda 2015.  → read more

The work of the young Estonian rapper Tommy Cash is in an extreme contrast to the post-Soviet greyness of Tallinn block of flats. Influenced by the music of Pharell Williams and Kanye West´s album Graduation, he follows his own path, which brings him early success: millions of views on YouTube, articles in magazines such as Noisey and Highsnobiety, and concerts all round the world. It was at one of his concerts (at Eurosonic) that his great show won us too, and you will be able to see him at Pohoda 2017. → read more

Mark Lanegan is one of the most outstanding figures of grunge and also the first singer of the golden era of this genre to have performed in Slovakia. In 2012, he played a memorable concert at the Zrkadlový háj hall. He has been part of the bands Screaming Trees and Mad Season (with the Alice in Chains singer Layne Staley), the Queens of the Stone Age, and has worked with Nirvana, PJ Harvey, Moby, and Isobell Campbell (Belle and Sebastian). It is for his raspy, deep voice and mesmerizing dark atmosphere of his songs that he is likened to Waits, Cohen, and Cave. Any comparisons are useless. Lanegan is unique, just as each of his performances. Visitors to Pohoda 2017 will see one of them. → read more

A computer in the minimalist role of a band, served by the simple Enter key, no pretense, no unnecessary hitting the buttons: just a direct dynamic base and shooting lyrics on the top of it, sharp and uncompromising, and a throaty voice whom you believe every word. Everything works convincingly, captivatingly, wonderfully. We  have been hunting after this band after the first time we heard them as if they were the wildest game and it took a couple of years, but the time has come when we can proudly say they are on the trophy list for the upcoming edition of Pohoda.  → read more

Last Tuesday, 20 journalists of Pitchfork published a selection of the fifty best IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) albums of all times. Tom Jenkinson, also known as Squarepusher, appeared there with as much as two albums (on the 9th and 24th place). This brilliant fretless bass guitar player, electronic multi-instrumentalist, and innovator combines jazz and electronic dance music in compositions intertwined with virtuoso parts. The legendary Warp Records representative will show his art of music also at the 21st Pohoda. → read more
