Ukrainian DJ Daria Kolomiec will close out Saturday’s program at Café Kušnierik

Her DJ sets offer a variety of genres and epochs of eclectic Ukrainian music. From the vintage jazzy vibe of the 1960s, charismatic pop-funk of 1970-80s, and weird 1990s’ synth-pop to the war-inspired progressive electro of recent years. It’s an emotional experience of pure joy, old-fashioned romanticism, and bittersweet memories that feel strangely familiar. Daria Kolomiec is a Ukrainian DJ, music curator, cultural activist, and media producer whose work bridges sound, storytelling, and advocacy. With over a decade of experience in television, radio, and live performance, she has become a well-known figure in Ukraine’s contemporary cultural landscape. In 2022, she was named one of Time magazine’s Next Generation Leaders for her cultural work amidst Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Before the full-scale war, Daria was known for her distinctive DJ sets, genre-blending music across decades and continents. She also founded MusiCures, a mobile app offering 24/7 curated music streaming, which she later transformed into a platform exclusively showcasing Ukrainian music and artists.

Since the start of the invasion, Daria has used her platform to document and amplify Ukrainian voices. Her podcast Diary of War began as a collection of voice messages from Ukrainians experiencing the first days of the war. It has since evolved into a transmedia documentary project, with staged readings performed in the United States by prominent American actors in collaboration with acclaimed theater artists and organizations. Her work has helped raise over $150,000 for Ukrainian aid efforts since early 2024 alone and continues to amplify Ukrainian voices abroad.

Through music sets, guest appearances, curated performances across Europe and the US, Daria introduces audiences to the emotional and historical depth of Ukrainian music and culture.
