Theatre dNO to Present the Play Hranica at Pohoda 2025

Theatre dNO is a young, independent theatre from Námestovo, creating original productions that focus on local themes with broader social relevance. Their production HRANICA / GRANICA unfolds against the backdrop of a forgotten historical event from 1920 – the division of the Orava region between Poland and Czechoslovakia.

The production goes beyond the documentary boundaries of the event, drawing attention to universal questions. Through associative and non-linear imagery, absurd humour, folklore, political grotesque, and elements of propaganda, the creators explore what a boundary means to a person – whether geographical, linguistic, national, or even personal and internal.

The theme of fractured international and interpersonal relationships is timeless, and at times uncomfortably reminiscent of today’s polarised world, where we find ourselves constantly fighting for “our truth and our people”. HRANICA / GRANICA is a call for empathy, perspective, and critical thinking – not in the form of preaching or moralising, but through an unsettling, musically evocative and visually powerful theatrical experience.
