Pohoda 2017 line-up in Europe’s top 10

A jury comprising music industry experts have listed Pohoda 2017’s lineup in Europe’s Top 10. Taking the fact that this is the second time in a row that we have received this nomination into account, our happiness is even bigger. We are competing with much bigger and richer festivals – Glastonbury, Roskilde, Lollapalooza Berlin, Rock Werchter, NOS Alive, Melt!, Lowlands, OpenAir St. Gallen and Sziget. “It’s something exceptional; we’ve appeared in the company of the most prestigious events. Putting a lineup together for an independent festival in a country of Slovakia’s kind, with its sponsoring limits and with our ticket prices, is an interesting artistic discipline… We choose a more difficult way and want to remain an interesting alternative festival – colleagues from abroad noticing our effort and appreciating it to such an extent that they add us to the elite club, is something that makes me even prouder. This exceptionally positive and motivating piece of news comes at the right time, when the selection of artists for the next edition is in full swing,” says Michal Kaščák as a reaction to this great achievement.

“There are hundreds of others trying to better you and a decreasing pool of established acts to bid on. Whether it’s about securing the biggest names in the world or, putting together special collaborations, or just knowing what the audience wants, our judges are looking for the festival which displayed the most vision when booking acts”, says the description of the “Line-Up of the Year” category on the official European Festival Awards (EFA) website. These words explain how come a lineup of a festival from a small (and compared to the Western Europe also poor) country appears in a selection of the best of what you could have experienced on the Old Continent in 2017. We are also nominated in the category of the “Best Medium-Sized Festival” again. According to the organizers of the poll, these festivals lure visitors with specific genres and unique non-musical experiences. We’re also happy to see that the amazing post-punk band Idles appears on the “Newcomer of the Year” list. As the UK media say, it would be hard to find a band with wilder and more frenetic music to offer. Their intense show at Pohoda was a very loud proof of this being the truth.

Now, the final results are in your hands. You can vote for us in the European Festival Awards poll’s shortlists of Line-Up of the Year and Best Medium-Sized Festival until the end of November. We might be from a medium-sized country, but our fans are great at getting mobilized. We can see that in the Everfest’s poll where we jumped from #80 to the current #2 (www.everfest.com/magazine/best-fest-quest-2018) after the quest was published. Thank you all for your votes in these polls. This way, you also build awareness of our festival, which, consequently, makes booking artists for Pohoda easier.
