Palestinian Hip-Hop Legends DAM at Pohoda 2025
A unique fusion of wild Arabic rap, Middle Eastern melodies and the pulsating beats of urban hip-hop. One of the most entertaining, original and socially engaged groups you'll ever encounter. Palestinian DAM will perform on Saturday night at Pohoda.
23. June 2025
DAM, meaning “eternity” in Arabic, are the first Palestinian hip-hop group, and among the pioneers of rapping in Arabic. It was formed in the late 1990s by Tamer Nafar, Suhell Nafar and Mahmood Jrere in order to tell their story through hip-hop. After releasing the track Min Irhabi (translated as "Who is the Terrorist"), which gained millions of listens, they rose to popularity especially among young people across the Middle East.
DAM have released two albums in this line-up — Dedication (2006) and Dabke on the Moon (2011). Their third album, Ben Haana Wa Maana, featured vocalist Maysa Daw, who joined the group in 2015.
DAM’s style is unmistakable. It’s a unique fusion of East and West, blending wild Arabic rap with Arabic rhythms, sounds and melodies of the Middle East, underpinned by the pulse of urban hip-hop. As Martin Vennard of BBC World Service put it: “The most entertaining, original and socially-engaged music to come out of the Middle East."
Though they rap exclusively in Arabic, they have also found success in Western countries. Outside Europe, they have performed in Japan, the USA, and Canada. In 2017, they even made it onto the Glastonbury Festival line-up. This year, you can experience DAM at Pohoda as well – head to the EUrópa stage after 2 a.m. on Saturday.
