Jade Bird

A 20-year-old UK artist Jade Bird is included in Rolling Stone and BBC’s (Sound of 2018) lists of artists you need to know. She released her first EP just six months back and today has more than a million monthly listeners on Spotify already. Journalists compare her to the likes of First Aid Kit, Alanis Morissette, Joni Mitchell or Patti Smith. We saw her at this year’s Eurosonic. An optimistic young girl with guitar who fills the whole club up after first tones. Jade has fantastic songs, amazing voice and creates atmosphere that we are glad to welcome at Pohoda 2018.

Jade Bird was born soon after the first Pohoda edition took place. Even though she comes from Northern England, she’s one of the up-and-coming stars representing genres typical of North America: Americana, country and folk. The American sound has been shaped by her musical inspirations (Bob Dylan, Pixies, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or Joni Mitchell) but, most of all, by Simone Felice, who was a producer of her debut EP Something American. He also invited other excellent musicians to work on the EP: sound engineer David Baron (Bat for Lashes, Peter Murphy), drummer Matt Johnson (Jeff Buckley, Rufus Wainwright) and the legendary guitarist Larry Campbell (Tom Petty, Bob Dylan). Over the last year, Jade Bird was the opening act for Tom Odell, First Aid Kit or Brent Cobb. Besides playing shows tirelessly, what contributed to her success was the fact that she was added to the popular Spotify playlist “New Music Friday”. As she says for BBC: “Right now, I feel like I'm the only thing on New Music Friday with real drums.” People often say that if music does not work out for her, she could be a comedian. According to Mark Savage from BBC, “Stand-up’s loss is music’s gain”. Sometimes you come across musicians whose concerts are like food for the soul: this is how our colleagues felt when they saw Jade Bird and we hope that, soon, she will enchant you the same way.
