Idiotape

“Imagine Cut Copy, Daft Punk, and Chromeo having a South Korean child”, is what MTW Iggy wrote about another act of Pohoda 2018, the band Idiotape. Three outstanding musicians from Seoul have successfully blended electronic music with house, Korean music, and metal. The band won the Korean Music Awardsʼ Best Dance & Electronic Album for their debut 11111101. In 2015, they co-headlined the South Korean Valley Rock Festival; besides the biggest events in Asia, they have also performed at the Glastonbury and Exit festivals, and twice at SXSW. Their powerful drums and punk riffs played on analogue synthesisers will please both the fans of dance as well as rock music.

Idiotape formed in 2008 to create “synthesiser” rock music. The band consists of the influential undergound DJ DGURU, electro-producer ZEZE, and the drummer known from Korean metal and punk bands – DR. Their first EP 0805 came out in 2010 and it was shortly followed by their debut 11111101. In 2014, they released the album Tours; media praised their 2016 album RE for the great connection of the old Korean music with contemporary rock that resulted in their style. Idiotape shortly became the most wanted indie-electronic local band. In addition to the Valley Rock Festival, they also performed at the Pentaport Rock Festival as their Korean headliner. They have also played at the biggest electronic events in the country, such as the Ultra Music Festival and Global Gathering Korea. “This trio of Seoul is the biggest name of the Korean electronic scene. But they are not some kind of a USB band. They play live, on real drums and keyboards, they create more energy on stage, and they continuously prove that they are the best band in Korea”, said another great Korean band Jambinai about Idiotape in the selection of music for The Quietus. The Korean equivalent of The Prodigy, Idiotape, will make dance also visitors to Pohoda 2018.
