Divadlo Lab with the Play Škovránok at Pohoda 2025

How can an individual push the boundaries of society today? Is our era missing its own Joan of Arc? Students in the third year of the Bachelor's degree at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU) will explore this question in their performance of Škovránok.

09. June 2025

Joan of Arc as a symbol for Christians, feminists, French nationalists, Mexican revolutionaries, and hairdressers. Joan of Arc as a subject of interest in psychiatry, neurology, and theology. Joan of Arc in literature, visual arts, music, theatre, and film. Joan of Arc as a story that continues. As a voice that can still be heard. But who is our Joan today?

What does this nearly 600-year-old legacy mean for us now—at a time when a democratic state is being dismantled through fast-tracked legislation? And where can our beliefs and courage take us? This is a story of an individual willing to die for their faith, willing to fight for freedom in their country. It’s time to find our Joan.
