David Žbirka aka Sunnbrella at Pohoda 2025
Sunnbrella is the solo project of musician and producer David Žbirka, who was born in Prague but now lives and works in England. In his music, you can hear references to the best that emerged from the British shoegaze music scene at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.

What began as a lo-fi bedroom pop project quickly caught the attention of the music scene. Tracks like “It’s Cool” and “Lost & Found” made their way onto the playlists of stations such as BBC 6 Music and Amazing Radio, and David began collaborating with a number of respected musicians and producers.
His debut album Heartworn, co-produced by Patrick James Fitzroy (PVA, Automotion, Sorry), was released in February 2023 and received positive acclaim. To mark the release, he held a concert at Rough Trade East in London. This was followed by a series of concerts across England, as well as two special sets in Montreal and New York.
In 2024, Sunnbrella supported American rock band Beach Fossils on their UK tour and also released the well-received single Kiss on credit, which was added to the playlist of the renowned Kevin Cole on KEXP radio.
In 2025, Sunnbrella appeared at the showcase festival ESNS in Groningen, Netherlands, made his US debut at SXSW Festival, and supported Texas shoegazers GLARE on their sold-out UK tour. He is currently set to perform at the OFF Festival in Poland, as well as at Trenčín Airport during Pohoda Festival.
Beyond his own work, David also contributed to the completion of Meky Žbirka’s final album Posledné veci.
“I follow David Žbirka’s musical and personal journey with admiration and respect. He builds on the free-spirited musical legacy of his family—his father Meky and mother Katka—while forging his own path, and he does it in a truly exceptional way. I saw him perform in a small club in Prague, where everything came together beautifully—and I’m convinced the same will happen at Pohoda,” adds Michal Kaščák of Pohoda about Sunnbrella.
