Bukahara at Pohoda 2019

The sensation of the German folk scene, Bukahara, was one of two bands that couldn’t play a concert at last year's Pohoda due to injury of a band member. And it was a particularly anticipated concert. Their contagious joy of playing music and mixing genres combined with the instrumental maturity of musicians with academic education made the attenders of the last year's Pohoda Dňa_FM dance. The portal Quantara aptly wrote in an article titled Global Buskers: "Bukahara concert? That means, quite simply, an evening of pure pleasure." We believe that this time nothing will stop the band from bringing their musical joys to Pohoda 2019.

One band, four musicians, three continents. Top-notch musicians of Bukahara mix gypsy jazz, swing, reggae with Balkan and Arab influences. In today's digital era, they produce exclusively analogue music that most closely resembles the work of bands like Beirut or Mumford and Sons. Singer and guitarist Soufian, violinist Avi and percussionist Ahmed met while studying jazz music at the Cologne Academy of Music. A year later, Max, who plays the wind instruments, joined them. The band’s concept is to destroy the musical boundaries, expressing their different roots and cultural identities. Avi, for example, is a Swiss with Jewish rooted, and Ahmed is from Palestinian Ramallah. They are not a peace project, though, as they say, they just make music together. They also destroy the imaginary boundaries between people in their lyrics. They will show how they easily balance on the edge of contagious playfulness and serious musical devotion at the 23rd year of our festival.
