Altın Gün at Pohoda on the Ground

Pohoda on the Ground will host also the Grammy-nominated Amsterdam band Altın Gün. The band is famous for its catchy and optimistic combination of genres such as Anatolian rock and Turkish psychedelic folk. New Model Radio wrote “Turkish folk songs which were passed on from generation to generation mix with a blend of funk rhythms, wah-wah guitars and analogue organs.” We have been following the band since 2018, when they debuted with On and were among the hottest bands at Eurosonic. A year later, they released album Gece, for which they were nominated for a Grammy in the Best World Music Album category, and in February this year came out their third album Yol under the label Glitterbeat Records. The latter was praised by Pitchfork, The Wire, The Quietus, and Uncut even called it a “pleasure”. We are pleased to announce that Altın Gün will perform at Trenčín Airport in a few weeks... five times!

22. June 2021

When working on the album Yol, due to the pandemic, the band members would send their ideas and individual tracks mostly via the Internet. The album is influenced by the sound of the turn of the 70's and 80's, which was also reflected in the use of drum machines and omnichord. Pitchfork highlights the extraordinary talent and perfect technique of singers Erdinço Ecevit and Merva Dasdemir, and the portal further says: “The gorgeous despondency of the folk melodies blends with glittering pop production in a stream of gilded melancholy. The album glides along like a particularly elegant swan, musical dexterity and audacious spirit paddling away frantically below the surface.”

Altın Gün are:

  • Merve Dasdemir – Vocals, keyboards
  • Erdinç Ecevit – Vocals, bağlama, keyboards
  • Jasper Verhulst – Bass guitar
  • Ben Rider – Guitar
  • Daniel Smienk – Drums
  • Gino Groeneveld – Percussion

Their show at Pohoda 2021 will also happen thanks to our participation in the European Talent Exchange Program (ETEP).
