Tessa Hills, aka MESSIE, comes from Pōneke — the Māori name for New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. She started out as a drummer, which sparked her love for genres like garage, breakbeat and jungle. Her signature sound also draws from breaks, footwork, and Baltimore club. As a New Zealand DJ, she’s pushing electronic dance music to exciting new heights.

MESSIE has rocketed to the forefront of the global electronic scene – performing at major festivals like Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds; selling out her own tour in her native New Zealand; and opening sets for global stars such as Fred again, Joy Anonymous, and Y U QT. British DJ and producer Fred again.. personally chose her to open for him in Perth, Australia, as part of one of his biggest shows to date.

Her colourful sets are full of surprises, embodying the motto “you never know what’s coming next.” With ease, she blends genres like baile funk, ghetto tech, Jersey club, juke, afrobeat-inspired rhythms, techno, and many other sounds from the global clubbing scene.
