Typical of Vaults are expressive melodies, magical atmosphere, mix of electronic and live
instruments, and the unmistakable voice of singer Blythe. Their song “Cry No More” scored
immediately upon posting on SoundCloud. “One Last Night” brought them, thanks to the film
50 Shades of Gray, tens of millions of views on Spotify and YouTube, and fans around the
world.
Guitarist and songwriter Ben Vella with producer Barney Freeman were recommended by a
common friend to see the appearance of singer Blythe Pepino. She was then acting in a street
theatre and using a special therapeutic singing method to teach people with learning
disabilities. Ben and Barney asked her to sing vocals for the song “Vultures” and the great
result encouraged the trio to record some more songs. Already called Vaults, they uploaded
the song “Cry No More” on Soundcloud, and a hundred thousand people listened to it in a
week’s time. The next track, “One Last Night”, was chosen by the producers as the
soundtrack of the film 50 Shades of Gray. That caused an exponential increase in fans of the
band from all over the world, and the number of views on YouTube and Spotify started to
count in tens of millions. Then they played a tour with Paolo Nutini and bands London
Grammar and Everything Everything. This year, they plan to release their debut album. Their
latest song “Midnight River” was ranked by BuzzFeed in the first place of the March ranking
of 46 songs to be heard. They are also to be seen at the beginning of July at our festival.
