The Art Will Not Be Silent! initiative will present at the Pohoda festival a continuation of its engaged participatory exhibition project, which originated in abandoned garages near the Slovak National Gallery in support of the SNG and as a response to the deteriorating conditions facing the cultural sector. The project created a space for free artistic expression, solidarity within the cultural community, and public dialogue about the role of culture in society.
The project will also feature large reflective text messages placed on the exterior of the garage, where visitors will be able to take photos and “light them up” using their camera’s flash. The first of these is the initiative’s name itself, “Art Will Not Be Silent!,” which in this context serves as a statement for society as a whole. The second is the message “Stay Strong,” derived directly from the title of an exhibited work by artist Jana Želibská, who has granted her consent for the initiative to use this message. Through art, the project opens a critical dialogue about the state of culture and draws attention to the challenges currently facing not only the cultural sector.
