
Súťaž Poviedka: Crème de la Crème SK
Koloman Kertész Bagala will guide us through the short stories of recent years' laureates. Featuring Radovan Potočár (2014, 2015), Dominika Moravčíková (2018, 2019), Peter Hoferica (2020, 2022), Karin Kissová (2023, 2024), and Jana Ondrušová (2024). Excerpts from the stories will be read by Jana Oľhová.
Poviedka is a Slovak literary competition for the best short story. The award-winning works are published in the anthology Poviedka RRRR, where RRRR (equivalent to English YYYY) represents the relevant calendar year. The competition was established in 1996 and is organised by the publishing house KK Bagala. According to the rules, any author may participate with a short story written in the Slovak language. The submitted work, or any part thereof, must not be published anywhere, including online, before the official announcement of the results. The competition is currently in its 29th year.
Radovan Potočár (*1993) comes from Levice and lives in Prague. He studied at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University and continues his student years at the Department of Screenwriting and Dramaturgy at FAMU. He works as a copywriter and web editor. Whenever possible, he travels. He is a co-organiser of the literary project Medziriadky. His prose and essays have been published in magazines such as A2, Enter, Rak, .týždeň, Vlna, and in the literary supplement of Pravda daily. His book debut was the novel Nádych.
Dominika Moravčíková (*1992) is a poet, prose writer, and doctoral candidate in musicology. In 2019, she was a laureate of both the Poviedka 2019 and Básne SK/CZ 2019 competitions. In 2020, she published her debut poetry collection Deti Hamelnu with Skalná ruža Publishing, and her prose debut was the collection Dom pre jeleňa. She regularly publishes in literary and cultural-critical periodicals. Since 2022, she has been collaborating with the Košice-based galleries VUNU and Galéria Tabačka, and also co-manages the Literary Residencies Košice programme.
Peter Hoferica (*1997) won the 24th edition of the POVIEDKA 2020 literary competition with the short story O nich (the audio version was read by Robert Roth), and two years later received an award for his story Úzkosť lesnej zveri. Hoferica is a former participant of Medziriadky, and after graduating in directing from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, he immersed himself in television projects. He is currently working on the project Dunaj, k vašim službám.
Karin Kissová (*1999) received an award in the Poviedka 2023 competition for her short story Nasledovať stopy holubov, and again in 2024 for the story Symbiózy. She studied screenwriting and dramaturgy at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. She currently works at the publishing house IKAR.
Jana Ondrušová (*1990) first took part in Poviedka at the age of nineteen, when her story reached the finals. In 2024, she won with her short story Telo na pláži. She studied screenwriting and dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and since 2014 has worked on projects such as Búrlivé víno, Dunaj, k vašim službám, Trpaslíci / Smajlíkovci, Zázračný ateliér, Školský klub, and a documentary film about Elena Lacková.
