Slovak Women Abroad: Connections That Are Changing Slovakia

Slovak women living abroad are playing an increasingly important role in shaping public debate and strengthening democracy in Slovakia. They create space for open conversations about issues that are often considered "uncomfortable" at home – gender equality, misogyny in public life, and equal representation of women in decision-making.

This is one of the reasons why the Slovak Women Empower (SWE) platform was established: to give women in the Slovak diaspora their own voice, their own agenda, and a network capable of driving positive change across borders. The discussion will explore why women's representation in the diaspora matters, what international experience brings to Slovak society, and why a healthy democracy cannot thrive without supporting groups that are too often pushed to the margins – including women, the Roma community and LGBTI+ people.
