There’s a theory that we walk through life with a deficit of happiness. Maybe all we need is to top it up just a little. Just 0.5‰... This humorous and brutally honest Nordic tragicomedy explores loss and the search for joy amidst the greyness of everyday life. On a wave of entertainment and reflection, we will be carried by excellent actors — men in the prime of their lives — Marián Miezga, Ady Hajdu, Braňo Deák, and Róbert Jakab. Experience an intense experiment that begins as an innocent game and ends with lasting consequences.
Four friends, all high school teachers, find themselves at a crossroads in life. Burnt out at their peak, they’ve given up on dreams and ambitions. Their monotonous days drag on in a neverending blur of obligations. Mocking students, cutting remarks at home, and the unfamiliar face in the mirror. A status quo bound to crack one day. The opportunity for change arrives at a 40th birthday celebration, where they stumble upon a bold and slightly risky theory by a Norwegian philosopher. It says that humans are born with a blood alcohol deficiency of 0.5‰. The cure is a steady intake, leading to greater confidence, creativity, drive, and satisfaction. In short, everything these tired men and dusty teachers long for. So why not try it for themselves?
The glasses start filling, the breathalysers flicker, and the experiment gets off to a promising start. The theory seems to hold—life grows more colourful, self-image improves, the deadening routine crumbles. So, why not raise the dosage? Will the results be even more dazzling? Can they reach the ignition point the theory suggests? And what if their joyful dancing slowly turns into a desperate stagger? When do they control the drinking, and when does the alcohol take control of them?
