Česká kniha roka: Letnice Miroslava Hlauča CZ
A forgotten mountain town, the early 20th century, time flows slowly, and miracles still happen. The story that won Miroslav Hlaučo not only the Magnesia Litera Book of the Year, but also the 2025 DILIA Litera Award for Debut of the Year, will be presented by the author together with Monika Kompaníková.
The story is set in a forgotten mountain town at the dawn of the 20th century, where miracles still happen, and time moves slowly and deliberately, guided by ancient order and tradition. But the old and mythical gradually collide with the new and rational, and the modern era finally makes its way even here. The novel, inspired by elements of magical realism and postmodern storytelling, paints a picture of changing times, historical upheavals, and looming threats. But at the same time, it is a story of love, hope, and belief in happy endings. It is both a whimsical fairytale and a pastoral idyll, but also a great novel shaped by the legacy of classic literature, rich with irony and humour. The serious and urgent is naturally woven together with playfulness and wit, creating a powerful whole that speaks to a wide range of readers. Monika Kompaníková will discuss the story with author Miroslav Hlaučo.
