The Slovak thrash metal band Catastrofy is known for its incredibly fast drums and guitars, along with straightforward lyrics laced with wit and satire. High-quality thrash metal and a fantastic band that will give you a surge of energy can’t be missing in the Pohoda 2025 line-up.
On their first two albums, Zbojnícky tanec (2015) and Besnota (2018), the band used a bandit theme and incorporated traditional Slovak instruments like the fujara, jaw harp, and bladder fiddle. They describe their style as “bandit thrash metal”.
In 2018, they won a Radio_Head Award in the Hard & Heavy category for their album Besnota. In 2021, they released Taký je život, in which they stepped away from the bandit theme to take on sharper, more socially conscious topics in their lyrics.
In 2025, they released the single K lopate, which—with irony and their typical sense of perspective—reflects on the social mood of recent years. “The lyrics deal with the state of our society, where there’s a widespread belief that only manual work has real value and that all artists and intellectuals are nothing but freeloaders,” says vocalist Boris Bauer. This topical theme has struck a chord not just among artists, but with the wider public too.
Don’t miss Catastrofy’s electrifying performance on Friday at Pohoda.
