Stoka Theatre with the Play Škovránok at Pohoda 2025

The play Škovránok (Skylark) offers a contemporary reflection on human relationships through cynically realistic dialogues. A distinct visual design enhances the atmosphere where the themes of death and breakups unfold. The production also touches on political and art-related topics, yet its deeper symbolism opens space for reflection on one's life and society. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the theatre’s future, the play delivers an authentic view of current issues and values.

“The latest production from the Stoka Theatre is titled Škovránok (Skylark). Three actors (Jozef Chmel, Martin Kollár, Peter Tilajčík) and one actress (Michaela Fech) have clearly listened to enough podcasts on relationship-building and self-development. The dialogues between romantic or sexual partners mostly occur in a cynically realistic tone, with little emotional engagement. They offer a sober perspective on repetitive partnerships that feel impossible to leave. The dialogues are rationalized yet preserve a certain mystery or use surprise to shift the dynamic in favour of the other side. Although political matters are largely avoided in the scenes, they are grounded in manipulativeness, unequal relationships, and various pathologies. Except for a single scene (Royal Father), the dialogues don’t reach the edge of absurdity or depict the devaluation of values and communication breakdown, but rather a kind of a tragic standard of our everyday lives.” (Dária Fojtíková Fehérová)



A subsidy was provided for the implementation of the project from the budget of the City of Bratislava through the Bratislava City Foundation and the project was also supported by the Bratislava Self-Governing Region – the best place to live.
