Peter Lipa, Peter Lipa Jr. and Akustika to Perform at the Concert for Martina and Ján in Prešov’s Stromoradie Club
Next Sunday, 18 May, the Prešov club Stromoradie will host the Concert for Martina and Ján. Performing will be Slovak jazz legend Peter Lipa together with his son, Peter Lipa Jr., as well as the Prešov-based band Akustika. The musical programme will also include a discussion with Roman Kvasnica, the legal representative of Martina and Ján’s families. The event begins at 5:00 p.m. and entry is free of charge.

This May Martina Kušnírová and Ján Kuciak would have celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary. In their memory, Pohoda Festival organises the Concert for Martina and Ján each year. This year, the Prešov music club Stromoradie, which took part in the very first edition of the concert, has joined forces with Pohoda once again – with the entire programme taking place directly in Prešov.

“It’s a great honour for us to host this remembrance at our club Stromoradie, even though it commemorates a tragedy that Slovaks allowed to happen to two young, innocent people. That’s why it’s so important to keep remembering them, especially today, when Slovakia is still ruled by the same criminals, liars, greedy figures, and now even collaborators who were in power when this tragedy occurred,” says Peter Šima, owner of Stromoradie, about the concert’s organisation.
The concert’s music programme will have a distinctly Prešov character. Performing will be Prešov native Peter Lipa alongside his son, Peter Lipa Jr. In an intimate setting, they will present a mix of genres including jazz, blues, and chanson. Also taking the stage will be the Prešov-based reggae group Akustika.

“Being part of the Concert for Martina and Ján is a matter of honour for me. This tragic event has cast a long, dark shadow over our lives. I accepted the invitation to take part without hesitation, and I’m proud to be part of this remembrance,” says Peter Lipa Sr. about his support for the concert.
The evening will also include a discussion titled “Ján and Martina, 7 Years Later”, in which Štefan Hríb will speak with Roman Kvasnica, the families’ legal representative.
