The Brighton band Penelope Isles will appear at Pohoda 2019. “When Penelope Isles started playing at the London IFF conference presenting promising artists from big agencies, I wanted to leave after the first song. But I liked the second, loved the third one, and after their fourth piece I knew that we wanted to have this band at Pohoda. Pohoda 2019 will feature one of the best hip-hop bands ever, the legendary The Roots. Their live performances are considered the best in this genre, but due to their duties in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they are quite an exclusive thing to experience. They only regularly play at The Rooots Picnic festival hosted by them in native Philadelphia. Fortunately, it takes place every year in June! Almost 120 artists, journalists, and music professionals from Slovakia will travel as partners of Eurosonic Noorderslag to Gröningen, Netherlands, to attend this biggest European showcase festival. The group is part of the focus of the festival on the music from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. ESNS finalized its line-up, which includes 319 names, a few days ago, with Czech and Slovak Focuses providing 11 artists from the Czech Republic and 10 from Slovakia. They will be given the opportunity to address with their performances 4,000 music professionals and representatives of 400 European festivals attending this cultural event of European significance every year. Our music will be talked about also in various conference panels. In addition to music, we will bring visual installations to the Netherlands from well-known Slovak artists as well as our own stage—Garáž stage—that will feature several Slovak and Czech artists. For the fifth time, we will bring great bands and interesting debates to the Night shelter of St. Vincent de Paul, as a part of the event titled Doma Dobre (Well at Home). The aim of the concerts is to point out the issue of living without home directly in a place that is often the only chance for over a thousand people to survive winter. The main star of this year will be the Dutch ska-rock band Bazzookas, who won the hearts of our attenders at Pohoda in 2016 and 2018 with their pop-up concerts in their school bus. They also lived up to their reputation and exceptional approach when they did not hesitate and agreed on performing at the Doma Dobre concert, refusing any royalty (with the addition, that everything that is collected from the volunteer admissions goes to the people in need). The concert will be opened by our most successful reggae group, Medial Banana, after then Katka Máliková with the band will perform. She dominated the 9th Radio_Head Awards and she represented Slovakia at Eurosonic at the beginning of the year. On Sunday, December 9th, in the low-threshold dormitory of St. Vincent de Paul, a discussion about homelessness will take place, featuring the founder of Depaul Slovakia, Juraj Barát, the current director Jozef Kákoš and the Mayor of Bratislava, Matúš Vallo. The event also includes exhibitions of photos and video projections, and a novelty will be a children's play area with an interactive performance "About a Boy Who Sought the Smell of Chocolate". Bazookas, Dutch ska-rock band that Pohoda visitors know very well, are coming to headline the 5th edition of Doma Dobre event. This fun crew of amazing musicians are a perfect object for photographers and filmmakers: just check the video within Pohoda acoustic session series or their latest aftermovie from this year’s Pohoda.
