Autumnist  SK

Autumnist, with the hypnotic blend of modern electronics and an original, boundary-free mix of genres, stands out as a distinctive and unconventional figure on the Slovak music scene. In a broad-spectrum mix, Autumnist combines ambient with hip-hop or breakbeat, hi-tech techniques with lo-fi pop, and a bizarre cinematic atmosphere with extraterrestrial folklore

Autumnist, a.k.a. Vlado Ďurajka, originally released several EPs under the name Abuse, as well as the debut album, The Great Outdoors (2005), which was highly acclaimed by both critics and listeners. The eponymous album The Autumnist (2009) won the prestigious Slovak Radio_Head Award for Album of the Year as chosen by critics. His next record, Sound Of Unrest (2013), marked a subtle shift from electronica toward a more organic sound. Its follow-up, False Beacon (2018), was again very well received by audiences and also won the Radio_Head Award for Album of the Year, as chosen by music professionals.

The six- to seven-member live line-up of Autumnist, joined by guest vocalists such as Nina Kohout and Matúš Oravec and supported by striking visuals, has performed at several international festivals and clubs (Eurosonic Noorderslag, SXSW, Sziget, Pohoda, BuSH, Colours of Ostrava, etc.) and has supported live acts such as Recoil, Laika, The Cinematic Orchestra, Mouse on Mars, and Coldcut.

The acclaimed music magazine Louder Than War wrote of Autumnist: “Autumnist offer something pretty original with their combination of samples, loops and a grinding, honking sax that explores a middle ground between soundtrack and indie dance grooves of 808 State and an experimental soundscape take on John Carpenter jamming with Massive Attack and a hypnotic blend of up‑to‑date electronica.”
